Is Tirzepatide legal in United Kingdom?
ApprovedLicensed in the UK as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and for weight management; NHS access is being phased in
The regulator has approved it as a medicine.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK for type 2 diabetes. The MHRA added weight management for adults on 8 November 2023 (BMI of 30 or more, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition). It is prescription-only. NICE guidance TA1026 (December 2024) recommends it on the NHS in England, with a phased roll-out over several years and a commercial arrangement. The NHS reimbursement prices for it were raised in September 2025. The MHRA also warned in February 2026 about fake Mounjaro pens dispensed by one pharmacy.
