Is Tirzepatide legal in New Zealand?
The regulator has approved it as a medicine.
Medsafe's data sheet for Mounjaro gives 22 December 2025 as the date of first approval. It covers adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes, chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight plus a weight-related condition, and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea in adults with obesity. Pharmac has had no funding application for weight loss; it is assessing an application for type 2 diabetes, which its advisers rated medium priority in August 2025.
