Is Tirzepatide legal in Canada?
ApprovedApproved as Mounjaro (type 2 diabetes) and Zepbound (weight management, sleep apnea); no generic submissions
The regulator has approved it as a medicine.
Eli Lilly's Mounjaro is authorised for type 2 diabetes in adults and in children aged 10 to under 18, and Zepbound (marketed since 2025-07-09 per the Drug Product Database) for chronic weight management and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. The generic submissions list current as of 2026-08-31 shows none for tirzepatide. Health Canada seized unauthorised tirzepatide sold by Canada Peptide in 2025 and warned in January 2026 about fake or unauthorised GLP-1 products; compounded copies of an available product are discouraged under Health Canada's compounding policy.
