Generics availableApproved as Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy; generic semaglutide approved from April 2026 and on sale since May 2026

Approved generic versions are sold.

Health Canada's Drug Product Database lists Novo Nordisk's Ozempic (marketed since 2018-02) and Rybelsus (2020-04) for type 2 diabetes and Wegovy for chronic weight management, cardiovascular risk reduction and MASH (the MASH indication is conditional under the NOC/c policy). Dr. Reddy's generic was approved on 2026-04-28, making Canada the first G7 country to approve a generic, followed by Apotex (2026-05-01), Sevmia (Apotex, generic weight-management semaglutide, 2026-06-29), Aspen and Sandoz (2026-09-16). The Drug Product Database shows the Dr. Reddy's and Apotex products as marketed since May 2026. In August and September 2026 Health Canada posted Type II recalls of specific generic lots: Dr. Reddy's (a mislabelled pen, and an out-of-specification impurity) and Apotex (pens that may show and deliver the wrong dose). Compounding copies of a commercially available product are discouraged by Health Canada policy, and a compounded semaglutide preparation made with an unauthorised ingredient was recalled in January 2025. Health Canada also seized unauthorised semaglutide at Rize Fitness in Vancouver (December 2025).
