Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
Is Orforglipron legal in United Kingdom?
The regulator has approved it as a medicine.
The MHRA authorised orforglipron (Foundayo, Eli Lilly) on 10 August 2026, the first authorisation in Europe. It is licensed for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 to 30 with at least one weight-related condition, and for type 2 diabetes that is not well controlled. It is prescription-only and was not available on the NHS when authorised; the MHRA said NHS use will follow an evaluation by NICE. In June 2026, before it was licensed, the MHRA, ASA and GPhC warned businesses that promoting pipeline weight-management medicines (including waiting lists) and newly licensed oral GLP-1s to the public is likely to break the advertising rules. The MHRA's additional monitoring list shows Foundayo tablets under UK product licences held by Eli Lilly.
