Is Liraglutide legal in Japan?

ApprovedApproved for type 2 diabetes (Victoza, and Xultophy with insulin); no separate weight-loss liraglutide product found

The regulator has approved it as a medicine.

PMDA lists Victoza (type 2 diabetes, 20 January 2010) and the insulin degludec plus liraglutide combination Xultophy (18 June 2019). PMDA's package-insert database returns only these two liraglutide products, and none is for obesity. On the NHI price list applicable from 13 August 2026, Victoza carries a transitional-use deadline of 31 March 2027, which normally signals that the product is being removed from the list, while the Xultophy combination remains listed. Generic liraglutide is not shown on the lists we checked.
