Is Liraglutide legal in India?
The regulator has approved it as a medicine.
CDSCO issued marketing authorisation for Victoza on 8 February 2010, with a requirement to run a post-marketing study. A 2017 request to add weight management for the higher-strength product (Saxenda) was not accepted at that time because the company had not supplied enough Indian data. In February 2025 the expert committee recommended permission for an Indian company to make and market a liraglutide pen for weight management without a new Phase III trial, after the company said the UK regulator (MHRA) had approved it, and in November 2025 it reviewed a Phase IV protocol for Biocon's synthetic liraglutide. One other application for a weight-management indication in adults and adolescents was not recommended in February 2025.
