Is Liraglutide legal in European Union?

ApprovedAuthorised EU-wide (Victoza, Saxenda) plus two STADA liraglutide products authorised in July 2026

The regulator has approved it as a medicine.

Victoza (2009, type 2 diabetes) and Saxenda (2015, weight management) are centrally authorised. On 15 July 2026 the European Commission also authorised two hybrid liraglutide medicines from STADA: Liraglutide STADA for type 2 diabetes and Ablymico for weight management, the latter referencing Saxenda. Liraglutide is also part of Xultophy (with insulin degludec) for adults with type 2 diabetes. All are prescription-only. The CHMP gave its opinion on both in May 2026. Ablymico differs from Saxenda in how the active substance is made, which is why it was assessed as a hybrid medicine.
