Generics availableApproved as Victoza and Saxenda; generic liraglutide pens were added to the ARTG from March 2025. Compounded versions barred since 1 October 2024.
Approved generic versions are sold.
Victoza was registered on 26 August 2010 and Saxenda (the weight-management brand) on 24 December 2015. Generic liraglutide pens were entered on the ARTG on 12 March 2025, which is the basis for the generic-available label; registration alone does not show what is stocked. Since 1 October 2024 pharmacists must not compound medicines containing GLP-1 receptor agonist analogues, and the usual exemption for individually prescribed compounded medicines does not cover them.
