Is Dulaglutide legal in New Zealand?

ApprovedApproved as Trulicity for type 2 diabetes and publicly funded with Special Authority criteria

The regulator has approved it as a medicine.

Medsafe's data sheet for Trulicity gives 12 August 2021 as the date of first approval. It is approved for improving blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and for reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who have heart disease or several cardiovascular risk factors. Pharmac funds it through a Special Authority: the person must have type 2 diabetes and must not have reached their HbA1c target despite regular use of empagliflozin, metformin and vildagliptin for at least 6 months where clinically appropriate. It is not approved for weight management, and Pharmac describes it as one of two funded GLP-1 medicines for type 2 diabetes, alongside Victoza.
