PDB (Protein Data Bank)

The Protein Data Bank is a free online library of 3D shapes of proteins and other large molecules that scientists have measured. Each entry has a short code, and anyone can look at the shape. This site links to entries so you can see the shape of the molecule behind a medicine.

For experts

The Protein Data Bank (PDB) is the global archive of experimentally determined three-dimensional structures of large biological molecules (proteins, DNA and RNA) and was the first open-access digital data resource in biology and medicine; RCSB PDB is the US data center. Entries deposited before 21 July 2027 have a four-character PDB ID, and the wwPDB is moving to extended 12-character IDs (for example pdb_00001abc) from that date. PDB-101 documents how entries are annotated and how the structure-determination method and resolution are reported, which should be read alongside any structural claim.
