Beta cell
Beta cells are special cells in the pancreas that make insulin. They release it when blood sugar goes up after a meal. They also make amylin.
For experts
Beta cells are the insulin-, C-peptide- and amylin-producing cells of the pancreatic islets, making up roughly 65-80% of islet cells. Insulin secretion from beta cells is stimulated by rising glucose after a meal. In mice, GLP-1 receptor expression has been found on pancreatic beta and delta cells, consistent with the glucose-dependent insulin-releasing action of GLP-1.
