SYNCHRONIZE-1 phase 3 result
The phase 3 SYNCHRONIZE-1 trial of survodutide in 725 adults with obesity or overweight and without diabetes was published in the New England Journal of Medicine (online on 7 June 2026; issue dated 20 August 2026) and funded by Boehringer Ingelheim. At week 76, mean weight change (treatment-regimen estimand) was -12.2% and -13.0% in the two survodutide groups versus -5.4% with placebo. Gastrointestinal events were the most common side effects.[src]
Rights to survodutide
Zealand Pharma stated on 28 April 2026 that survodutide is licensed to Boehringer Ingelheim, which is solely responsible for its global development and commercialisation. In the same announcement Zealand reported average weight loss of up to 16.6% at 76 weeks versus 3.2% with placebo, using the efficacy estimand (which estimates the effect if people stay on treatment as planned).[src]
Phase 3 liver disease trial
ClinicalTrials.gov lists Boehringer Ingelheim as sponsor of LIVERAGE, a Phase 3 placebo-controlled trial of survodutide in adults with MASH (fatty liver disease with inflammation) and moderate or advanced liver fibrosis, with a planned 1,800 participants. Survodutide is investigational.[src]
