Biocon

Indian biopharmaceutical company (Biocon Limited) that makes generic and biosimilar medicines. In GLP-1s it sells generic liraglutide, the older GLP-1 drug behind Victoza and Saxenda, in the UK and, since 2026, in the US. It has also announced a licensing and supply agreement for semaglutide in Brazil. Biocon does not report GLP-1 revenue as a separate line in the releases cited here. UK liraglutide launch (February 2025)
On 28 February 2025 Biocon announced the UK launch of liraglutide for diabetes (Liraglutide Biocon, a generic of Victoza) and for chronic weight management (Biolide, a generic of Saxenda). Biocon said it was the first generics company to obtain approval for generic liraglutide in a major regulated market, following approval from the UK's MHRA.[src]
US approval: weight-management liraglutide (February 2026)
Biocon announced that it received US FDA approval on 24 February 2026 for its liraglutide injection, a generic of Saxenda, for chronic weight management as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.[src]
US approval: diabetes liraglutide (March 2026)
On 12 March 2026 Biocon notified stock exchanges that its subsidiary Biocon Pharma Limited had received US FDA approval of its abbreviated new drug application for liraglutide injection, a generic of Victoza, for type 2 diabetes.[src]
First quarter FY2027 update (August 2026)
In its results for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, Biocon said it had commercialised generic liraglutide in the US during the period, and described its research pipeline as including GLP-1 peptides and other complex generics.[src]
Semaglutide licensing in Brazil (April 2024)
On 17 April 2024 Biocon announced an exclusive licensing and supply agreement with Biomm S.A. for its semaglutide product (a generic of Ozempic) in Brazil. Under the agreement Biocon handles development, manufacturing and supply, and Biomm is responsible for regulatory approval and commercialisation in Brazil.[src]
